Birdlink Sanctuary, Inc. is a IRS approved 501(c)3 non-profit organization. All donations are tax deductible at a 50% rate.
In order to be an “Charity”, first a group must become a corporation. There are many types of corporation, all of which are acceptable to the US Treasury Department, parent department of the Internal Revenue Service, IRS. Then the corporation, in good standing must apply to the IRS for the charitable designation based specifically on the type of activity the corporation intends.
Based on Birdlink Sanctuary, Inc., a Texas Corporation, business plan, to rescue and rehome birds, the designation was 501C3. Very specifically, designated not allowing any religious or political activity, requiring annual reporting to the IRS, and disclosing total annual income.
It was not simple or inexpensive to put together all the documentation required with the application, and even to redo the application after the initial rejection. It took months to be approved. The charitable designation is a point of pride for any organization. It is also a creditable marker of the quality of the organization. Birdlink Sanctuary, Inc. has been in good standing with the IRS for over a decade. We are justifiably proud.
